HC Deb 30 June 1955 vol 543 cc50-1W
Mr. Vaughan-Morgan

asked the Minister of Health what percentage of the population in England and Wales were living in under-doctored areas at October, 1951, April, 1953, and at the latest available date.

Mr. Iain Macleod

I regret that information is not available in exactly the form asked for, but the percentages of the population on doctors lists and living in areas which have been regarded by the Medical Practices Committee as those where doctors should be encouraged to practise have over the years been broadly as follows:

At 1st July, 1952 50 per cent.
At 1st July, 1953 37 per cent.
At 1st July, 1954 (the latest date for which figures are available) 27 per cent.
