§ Sir D. EcclesIn January, 1951, there were 35,103 classes with more than 40 pupils, including 1,123 with more than 50 pupils. The comparable figures for January, 1954, were 43,751 and 1,189 respectively, but between 1951 and 1954 the number of children in school had risen by 638,000.
