HC Deb 09 February 1955 vol 536 c218W
97. Mr. Tilney

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will make a statement concerning the crash of the Bristol Wayfarer airliner on 5th February between Enugu and Calabar.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Yes. The House will have seen with great regret that at approximately 10 o'clock on the morning of 5th February a Bristol Wayfarer aircraft, owned by the West African Airways Corporation, crashed in dense bush about 60 miles north of Calabar with the loss of all of the 13 persons aboard (nine passengers, four crew). The cause of the accident is at present unknown but investigations are proceeding and, until these are concluded, it would be premature for me to make any further statement. I am sure that the House will wish to join me in expressing sympathy with the relatives of those who lost their lives.
