Mr. McKayasked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance if he is aware that the raising of National Assistance by more than six per cent., will reduce the comparative value of the amount received by retired pensioners; and, under these changed conditions, when he intends to reconsider the need to raise National Insurance retired pension rates.
§ Mr. PeakeNo. I cannot accept that a change in the National Assistance scales must be followed by a review of the rates of retirement pensions which, I would remind the hon. Member, depend on the payment of insurance contributions.
