HC Deb 12 December 1955 vol 547 c140W
113. Mrs. Mann

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that many articles such as soap powders, dentifrice, and detergents need not be sold by weight or measure, and that the contents of these go down in weight without notice to the purchasers; and if he will stop this method of concealing price increases by measures to ensure that all packaged goods are clearly stamped with weight.

Mr. Walker-Smith

The marking of prepacked soaps and other detergents with the weight or measure of their contents is one of the recommendations contained in the Report of the Committee on Weights and Measures legislation. My right hon. Friend is considering the recommendations in the Report with a view to introducing new legislation.
