§ Mr. J. Hyndasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will make a statement on the progress to date of the new Whitley Council in Tanganyika.
§ Mr Lennox-Boyd, pursuant to his reply [OFFICIAL REPORT, 2nd March, 1955; Vol. 537, c. 277], supplied the following information
76WFollowing the implementation of the East African Salaries Commission Report last year and consequent changes in the structure of the Tanganyika service, the various staff advisory boards have now been replaced by a Tanganyika Civil Service Advisory Board. The Board has a Chairman, six "official side" members, and a "staff side" of six, consisting of two representatives each of the European, Asian and African staff associations. Its procedure is to be decided at its first meeting, which is expected to take place shortly. Whether it develops into a Whitley Council depends on the wishes of the staff associations, as the Tanganyika Government have already accepted in principle the introduction of such a Council provided it will deal with the interests of the whole service.unclassified roads in each of the Welsh counties; and what mileage of unclassified roads has been upgraded to class III since 1946.
