HC Deb 21 October 1954 vol 531 c193W
4. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations what arrangements are made by other members of the Commonwealth to inform this country when British citizens in their respective countries decide to apply for citizenship therein; and how many have so decided during the past three years in particular in Ceylon, India and Pakistan.

Mr. Dodds-Parker

No regular arrangements have been made with other Members of the Commonwealth for the United Kingdom Government to be informed when citizens of the United Kingdom and Colonies apply for membership of those countries. I am unable, therefore, to give the hon. Member a complete reply to the second part of his Question. I understand, however, that since the beginning of 1952 about 2,000 persons have renounced citizenship of the United Kingdom and Colonies in order to remain or become citizens of Ceylon.
