§ Mr. Doddsasked the Minister of Education (1) the results arising from the arrangement made five months ago with the Home Secretary that his Department be supplied with particulars of convictions for serious offences against young people committed by persons engaged, or likely to be engaged in the teaching profession;
(2) in how many instances since 1st July, 1954, proprietors of private schools have notified his Department of the termination of a teacher's engagement on account of misconduct, grave professional default or conviction of a criminal offence; and whether he is satisfied that this arrangement is working satisfactorily.
§ Mr. VosperSince 1st July action has been taken in the case of seven independent school teachers, four notified to my Department under the arrangements made with my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary, and three notified by their employers. My right hon. Friend has so far been well satisfied with the way the proprietors of independent schools have co-operated with my Department in this matter.
