Mr. Rees-Daviesasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether he will give the completion of the scheme for railway electrification of Thanet the first priority for railway electrification in the Southern Region; 142W what work is now preceeding upon the completion of the plans and costings; when such plans and costings will be completed for constructional work to start; and whether he will take steps to ensure the early completion of this scheme.
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterThese are matters for the British Transport Commission, who, as I informed the House on 3rd November, hope to submit to me their plan for re-equipment and modernisation of the railways, including further electrification schemes, before the year ends.
