HC Deb 24 November 1954 vol 533 cc143-4W
117. Mr. McKibbin

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many people holding Northern Ireland driving licences have been convicted for motoring offences in Great Britain in each of the years 1952, 1953 and 1954 to date; and how many have had their licences suspended.

Major Lloyd-George

I regret that the information is not available.

Mr. Robens

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, after consideration of the case of Mr. T. R. Young, of Lynemouth, Northumberland, brought to his notice by the hon. Member for Blyth, he has now decided to offer further advice to chief officers of police on the subject of greater care to distinguish between drunkenness and cases of illness.

Major Lloyd-George

Yes; I will take an opportunity of reminding chief officers of police of the desirability of taking precautions to ensure that there is no delay in seeking medical assistance where a person thought to be intoxicated becomes ill while in police custody.
