HC Deb 04 November 1954 vol 532 cc85-6W
Major Hicks Beach

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he is aware that electricity generated by nuclear energy will not require its generators, for economy reasons, to be near to a source of coal; and whether he will, therefore, reconsider the suggestion of the erection of pylons in Gloucestershire to carry out the proposals for the 275 kilovolt grid.

Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd

Before giving my consent on 14th July to the erection of this stretch of the 275 kv. supergrid, I took account of the possible effects of nuclear power development, and my considered view is that the grid will not become redundant in the foreseeable future.
