HC Deb 03 November 1954 vol 532 cc41-2W
16. Mr. J. Harrison

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General the average waiting period for the installation of a telephone for an ordinary applicant in England; and how this compares with the position 12 months ago.

Mr. Gammans

The average waiting time for all applicants cannot be given and, even if it could, it would be meaningless. So much depends on whether exchange and line equipment are available, and these factors vary from place to place. Nearly 400,000 lines were connected in the United Kingdom in the last 12 months, as compared with just under 350,000 in the previous year.
