Metropolitan Police Force was 19,698 men and 524 women, and the strength 15,899 men and 468 women. The authorised establishments of the county police forces in England and Wales totalled 29,874 men and 826 women, and the strength 28,187 men and 722 women. The authorised establishments of the city and borough police forces totalled 22,685 men and 755 women, and the strength 20,204 men and 650 women.
