HC Deb 03 June 1954 vol 528 c113W
86. Sir R. Perkins

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation when he expects to complete the erection of a steel road-bridge over the canal at Fretherne, Gloucestershire; and what is causing the delay.

Mr. Profumo

I presume my hon. Friend is referring to the bridge over the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal which collapsed in March under the weight of a lorry. This bridge was owned by the B.T.C.; the financial arrangements for the new bridge have now been approved by my Department and the highway authority, the Gloucestershire County Council, are being notified accordingly. I understand this will enable the Commission to proceed with the new bridge, which it is hoped to complete in about three months.
