HC Deb 03 June 1954 vol 528 cc114-5W
88. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Minister of Works whether he is aware of the continued shortage of cement in South Wales and particularly in Newport, which has been holding up building operations of all varieties for the past two years, and threatens to cause similar difficulties in the near future; and what action he proposes to take to deal with the situation.

Sir D. Eccles

There has been and is no general shortage. A few oases of difficulty have been brought to the notice of my Cardiff office. I am hopeful that increasing supplies will meet all demands.

Mr. Willey

asked the Minister of Works what steps he is taking to improve the supplies of cement to North-East England.

Sir D. Eccles

Supplies of cement are increasing. The North-East Coast will receive its fair share and, according to my information, demands should be met. This is the peak season of the year.
