§ Captain Ryderasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether he will make a statement about the reappointment of the members of the London Transport Executive when their present terms of office expire in September next.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydIt will be remembered that I have appointed the Chairman and members of the London Transport Executive on each of the last two occasions for a term of one year only, for the reason that the changes contemplated in the structure and organisation of the British Transport Commission made it advisable for me to do so. I greatly regretted having to limit the period of their appointments as they have my complete confidence, and I still more regret, as does Sir Brian Robertson, who shares my confidence, that, until the major changes in the structure and organisation of the British Transport Commission have been put into effect, I am still unable to make these appointments for a longer term. In these circumstances the Chairman and members of the London Transport Executive have agreed to accept office for a further term of one year from the 1st October next.
