Mr. Haymanasked the Minister of Labour how many ex-students of the Camborne School of Metalliferous Mining have evaded National Service in each of the last three years by taking mining appointments abroad soon after the completion of their final examinations, even though they had been granted deferment to enable them to complete their studies.
§ Mr. WatkinsonThe number of ex-students at this school who went abroad shortly after their final examination and before undertaking their National Service was 12 in 1951, 12 in 1952 and 9 in 1953. Three of the men who went abroad in 1951 have since returned to this country and have joined the Forces.
