asked Her Majesty's Government what progress has been made by the Colonial Development Corporation regarding the construction of a meat works at Lobatsi, Bechuanaland; when is it expected that the works will be in operation, and what has been the cost of the project to date.

I understand from the Colonial Development Corporation that it is hoped to make a trial operational run in August this year. For further details I would refer the noble Lord to page 42 of the Corporation'sReport and Accounts for 1953 which is now available.
