§ 57. Mr. G. Thomasasked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware of the difficulty of finding employment in Cardiff 113W for women over 40 years of age; and what action he is taking to relieve the position.
§ Mr. WatkinsonIt is often difficult to find work for women over 40 years of age, but not more so in Cardiff than elsewhere. There is a considerable local demand for women workers, but in many industries employers prefer the younger women. The employment exchange is doing what it can to induce a change in this attitude and the local employment committee have recently written to a large number of employers to ask them to co-operate in finding work for older persons.
