Williamsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department on what grounds he has decided to extend by two years the period during which the National Marriage Guidance Council, the Catholic Marriage Advisory Council and the Family Welfare Association, will be receiving Exchequer grants for marriage guidance; and whether the sanction of Parliament has been obtained for this extension.

Maxwell FyfeThe proposed extension is designed simply to maintain the present position until consideration can be given to any relevant recommendations that may be made by the Royal Commission on Marriage and Divorce. The necessary provision for the financial year 1954–55 is under consideration in connection with the Home Office Estimate shortly to be presented to Parliament.
