HC Deb 26 January 1954 vol 522 c214W
62. Mr. Swingler

asked the Secretary of State for War what further court-marital proceedings have been taken as a result of disclosures at the trial of Captain Griffiths.

Mr. Head

A final decision will be taken shortly.

63. Mr. Swingler

asked the Secretary of State for War in how many cases court-martial proceedings have been taken in Kenya since 1st January, 1952; what were the charges involved; how many convictions were made; and what sentences were imposed.

Mr. Head

187 trials by court-martial; 171 convictions. The maximum sentences on a variety of charges, of which few involved the most serious offences, have been, in the case of officers, cashiering, and, in the case of other ranks, two years' imprisonment and discharge with ignominy.
