Mr. Watkinsasked the Minister of Labour what representations or letters of protest his Department has received against the proposed closure of the Builth Wells employment exchange; and what replies have been sent.
§ Mr. WatkinsonIt is not proposed to close these premises but to reduce the days of opening to three per week including market days. In addition to representations from the hon. Member, my Department has received 10 letters from local political organisations, trade union branches, local authorities and a trade association in the area. In each case a reply has been sent indicating that the Department is unable to reverse the decision reached.
Mr. Watkinsasked the Minister of Labour how many employment exchanges have been closed in Wales during the last 12 months, either permanently or in favour of part-time facilities; what offices are under consideration for closure or for part-time facilities; and what saving in manpower and expenditure is expected for each.
§ Mr. WatkinsonNo local offices have been closed. Facilities have been curtailed in two areas with a saving of one and three staff and about £500 and 189W £1,400 per annum, respectively. The only other change contemplated at present is at Builth Wells where a reduction of facilities will save one staff and about £500 per annum.
