HC Deb 20 February 1954 vol 689 c229W
22. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Minister of Education how many schools in Accrington, Oswaldtwistle, Clayton-le-Moors, Church and Rishton are more than 50 years old.

Sir E. Boyle

I understand from the local education authority that 43 schools in these areas occupy premises built over 50 years ago.

23. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Minister of Education how many school classes with more than 40 pupils there are in Accrington, Oswaldtwistle, Clayton-le-Moors, Church and Rishton, respectively.

Sir E. Boyle

Twelve in Accrington, 1 in Oswaldtwistle, 1 in Clayton-le-Moors and none in either Church or Rishton, in January, 1963. These 14 classes represented 4 per cent. of all 356 classes in maintained schools, in the 5 localities.
