asked the Minister of State, Board of Trade, as representing the Minister of Materials, how far it is still necessary to maintain strategic stockpiles of timber, which entail considerable cost in rentals, supervision and wastage, in view of the fact that timber traders are now in a position to purchase an ample supply of timber as required.

In the view of Her Majesty's Government it is still necessary to maintain a strategic stockpile of timber in addition to the stocks held by the trade.
