§ 60. Mr. Mulleyasked the President of the Board of Trade which countries in the sterling area impose restrictions on the free import of British tools, cutlery and silverware; and what undertakings have been given as to relaxation of such restrictions as a result of the recent Conference of Ministers at Sydney.
Mr. AmoryAll Commonwealth countries in the sterling area, except Ceylon, the Central African Federation and the Colonies, operate trade or exchange restrictions which to some extent limit imports of these goods from this country. As regards the second part of the Question, I would refer the hon. Member to the Conference communiqué in which the Commonwealth Finance Ministers at Sydney repeated their intention to ease restrictions on intra-sterling area trade as the external financial position of the various countries improved.
