HC Deb 09 February 1954 vol 523 c118W
Mr. John MacLeod

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will make a statement on the proposals to improve the means of communication and transport in the area of the north coast of Applecross and the additional problem of the people of Applecross village and vicinity.

Mr. J. Stuart

My right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation has informed the County Council of Ross and Cromarty, in reply to representations made to him, that in present financial circumstances expenditure on the construction of the North Applecross road at an estimated cost of about £300,000 could not be justified. Consideration is being given to the provision of a ferry service between Toscaig and Kyle of Lochalsh for the benefit of the people of Applecross village and its vicinity.
