HC Deb 09 February 1954 vol 523 cc117-8W
Sir A. Bossom

asked the Minister of Education whether, in view of the rise in the figures of traffic accidents involving children during 1953, she will arrange to make playing fields or playgrounds available to keep the children off the streets, at times when they would normally be closed.

Miss Horsbrugh

Experience shows that if the use by children of playgrounds and playing fields outside school hours is to be fully satisfactory adequate supervision is necessary. Local education authorities have power, under the Education Act, 1944, to make such arrangements with my approval where they are necessary.
