HC Deb 09 February 1954 vol 523 cc112-3W
100. Miss Lee

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what steps are taken to ensure that the non-party character of the British Council is maintained, especially in its work among foreign and colonial students studying in this country.

Mr. Dodds-Parker

The Executive Committee, which is the governing body of the British Council, includes two Conservative and two Labour Members of Parliament, and the President of the Liberal Party. Programmes for overseas students at British Council centres do not deal with matters of current political controversy. In discussing British political or social institutions, officials of the Council are careful to give equal attention to the views of the main political parties.
