HC Deb 03 February 1954 vol 523 c42W
78. Sir F. Markham

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies to which Colonies has the offer already been made of transferring them from his Department to the Home Office; and to which further Colonies it is proposed to make such offers.

Mr. Hopkinson

As the House is aware, the Maltese Government were informed last September that Her Majesty's Government would be prepared to agree in principle to the transfer of responsibility for handling business relating to Malta to the Home Secretary. The Maltese Government have not yet given a firm reply.

The proposal was framed to meet the special circumstances of Malta and there are no plans for making a similar offer to other Colonial Territories.
