asked the Assistant Postmaster-General how many telegrams have been sent since the recent increased charges were made; what were the total receipts; and what was the number, and value, for the corresponding period last year for ordinary and greeting telegrams, separately.

Between 1st August and 31st October this year the number of inland telegrams was 4,936,595 excluding Greetings telegrams but including the new overnight telegrams. The revenue was £965,982. The number of Greetings telegrams was 1,188,397, from which the revenue was £273,501, making a total of 6,124,992 telegrams and £1,239,483 of revenue.

In the same period last year the number of inland telegrams was 7,205,028 excluding Greetings telegrams. The revenue was £711,166. The number of Greetings telegrams was 1,638,260, from which the revenue was £208,161, making a total of 8,843,288 telegrams and £919,327 revenue.
