HC Deb 15 December 1954 vol 535 c157W
125. Mr. Beswick

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what research is now being made into methods of more effectively preventing the emission of harmful gases from motor exhausts; and what new devices for this purpose have recently been submitted to him.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

As is stated in the Report of the Committee on Air Pollution, research on the effect of concentration of gases in busy streets is being undertaken by the Fuel Research Station. I understand they are also exploring the possibility of completing the combustion of exhaust gases so as to reduce the emission of harmful contents, and a new device with this object is to be tested.
