§ 113. Mr. P. Morrisasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation why the claim of the British Transport Commission for £351,630 compensation in respect of East Coast flood damage 1953, Account No. VI-IB, Maintenance of and Renewal of Way and Structures, was refused.
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterBecause, as was explained at the time, it was not the policy of Her Majesty's Government to make payment in respect of damage caused by the East Coast floods to any large business concern, which could of course decide either to insure or carry its own risks.
