Mr. Swinglerasked the Secretary of State for War (1) the percentage decline in the purchasing value of the basic rates of cash pay and allowances to Regular soldiers since the present rates were fixed; and what is his estimate of the annual cost of restoring their original purchasing value;
(2) the percentage decline in the purchasing value of cash pay and allowances to National Service men since the present rates were fixed; and what would be the annual cost of raising them so as to restore their original purchasing value.
