§ 35. Mr. Errollasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government why the repair shops of a motor business are always assessed on the same basis as shop property, whereas repair shops for other trades are given the benefit of industrial derating.
§ Mr. DeedesRepair shops which form part of premises which as a whole are industrial qualify for derating if the work of repair is a necessary part of the industrial process. Motor repair shops are usually excluded from derating on the ground that they are more in the nature of retail shops.
