§ 8. Sir F. Messerasked the Minister of Health if he is aware that one of the difficulties in the recruitment of nurses is the lack of residential accommodation and in some cases the unsuitable accommodation which does exist; and if he will consider giving priority to the improvement in nurses' conditions with special 84W regard to the need for new nurses' homes or hostels.
§ Mr. Iain MacleodIt is for hospital boards to consider what priority to give to the provision of new accommodation for nurses in the light of the other demands on their capital allocations and of my Standing Nursing Advisory Committee's advice on how far nurses need to be resident. I have no evidence that accommodation difficulties are adversely affecting the recruitment of nurses generally.
