HL Deb 15 April 1954 vol 186 c1328WA
LORD BARNBY

asked Her Majesty's Government if they will state the total amount received, since the conclusion of World War II, by the United Kingdom from the U.S.A. by way of Grant in Aid or subvention; also the amount received, or to be received, as civil or military aid during the current U.S.A. fiscal year; and what Her Majesty's Government at present contemplate will be received (subject to necessary authorisation) during the new U.S.A. fiscal year.

THE EARL OF SELKIRK

Between July, 1945, and March 31, 1954, Her Majesty's Government have received from the United States Government £1,034 million by way of loan and £1,005 million by way of grant aid, besides supplies in kind, including military equipment. Of that amount £72 million of grant aid was received in the present United States fiscal year. At March 31, United States aid allocated but not received was £72 million. It is not possible to say how much of this sum will be received during the present financial year, nor can I forecast what allocation of aid will be made under the United States appropriation for 1954–55.

House adjourned at twenty-eight minutes past eleven o'clock, to Tuesday, 27th April, 1954.
