§ Mr. D. J. Williamsasked the Minister of Labour how many factories are working short time in the South Wales Development Area; how many workers are affected; and what are the prospects for a resumption of full-time working in these industries.
§ Mr. WatkinsonSome short time is at present being worked in 15 factories in the South Wales Development Area, and 1,480 workers are affected. The industries mainly concerned are: vehicle accessories, metal goods, steel tubes, iron founding, light alloys and boot and shoe manufacture. The amount of short time working varies from week to week according to the volume of orders received, and it is not possible to forecast when full-time working will be resumed in all industries.
