HC Deb 21 October 1953 vol 518 cc259-60W
50. Mr. Bing

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the area of the Kikuyu Reserve in Kenya; the number of persons in this area before the present emergency; the number now, and the number which it is expected will ultimately be accommodated there.

Mr. Lyttelton

The whole area of the Kikuyu land unit is about 6,000 square miles, but this includes land occupied by the Meru and Embu and the land occupied by the Kikuyu proper is about 2,000 square miles. The rest of the information is not available in London and I will communicate with the hon. and learned Member when I have consulted the Governor.
