HC Deb 26 November 1953 vol 521 c96W
Mr. Chetwynd

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the cost of collection, and what proportion this cost bore to the total yield of Surtax, Income Tax, as a whole, and Income Tax collected through Pay As You Earn, respectively, in the last financial year for which particulars are available.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

The cost of collection of Inland Revenue duties generally in the year ended 31st March, 1952, the latest for which figures are available, was 1.07 per cent. It is not possible to distinguish the cost of collecting individual taxes.
