HC Deb 26 November 1953 vol 521 cc81-2W
Sir A. Bossom

asked the President of the Board of Trade why, when a licence was granted for the import of somewhere

related to the estimated population age 5–14 years.

in the neighbourhood of 100 tons of sprouts from Holland for quick-freeze, he has declined to allow English growers to import any of the seed.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

Sprouts from Holland are admissible under open general licence at all times of the year, and no individual licence is required. An individual licence is, however, required for the import of vegetable seeds. I do not know of any case in which a licence for the import of sprout seed has been refused but, if my hon. Friend has a particular case in mind and will let me have the details, I will look into it.
