HC Deb 24 November 1953 vol 521 c23W
85. Mr. Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland to what extent, and under what conditions, doctors in the National Health Service are allowed to prescribe Roter tablets to patients suffering from stomach trouble.

Mr. J. Stuart

A doctor may prescribe under the National Health Service any drug he considers necessary for the treatment of a patient. Roter tablets have, however, been classified by an independent professional committee as being of doubtful therapeutic value, and a doctor who prescribes them may be asked to justify his action before his colleagues on the local medical committee.
