HC Deb 18 November 1953 vol 520 c173W
Captain Orr

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General his statutory authority for the allocation of frequencies; and what is his authority for allocating frequencies for use by the defence Departments.

Mr. Gammans

Under the Wireless Telegraphy Acts 1904–26, no one can install or use any wireless apparatus without a licence from the Postmaster-General, who has power to impose conditions in the licence. It is under this power that he imposes conditions as to the frequencies that may be used. Block allocation of frequencies is arranged by inter-Departmental agreement, but individual frequencies for the defence Departments are assigned by those Departments themselves.
