§ 75. Sir W. Smithersasked the Minister of Agriculture if he has considered the work and policy of the Norwich and District Food Production Council, particulars of which have been sent to him; and if he will consider the desirability of creating a non-party domestic food movement on the lines of the Savings Movement so as to give to the production of domestic food the same status and importance in the life of the nation as the saving of money.
§ Mr. NugentMy right hon. Friend is aware of the work of the Norwich and District Food Production Council and agrees with the council about the economic and social value of food production in gardens and allotments. As he has previously explained to my hon. Friend, the Government's policy is to encourage domestic food production through the voluntary organisations, and with the help of local authorities. The National Council for Domestic Food Production already exists to co-ordinate and help the work of these bodies, and my right hon. Friend sees no need to create another piece of machinery.
