HC Deb 12 November 1953 vol 520 c96W
Mr. Ian Harvey

asked the Minister of State, Board of Trade, as representing the Minister of Materials, when he proposes to remove the present restrictions on the consumption of timber.

Mr. Amory

My noble Friend has made an Order removing, as from tomorrow, all restrictions on the use of softwood timber and of the few types of hardwood which still remain subject to consumption licensing. My right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade, is in addition removing all quantitative restrictions on the import of hardwoods from all sources except the dollar area. Import licences for dollar hardwoods will still be granted only for essential uses.
