§ 88. Mr. Summersasked the Minister of Food if he will remove the restrictions on the sale of sucking pigs in time for the Christmas trade.
§ Major Lloyd GeorgeThis restriction, which is the normal restriction applying also to cattle and sheep, prohibits the sale of pigs for slaughter for human consumption other than to the Ministry of Food. In practice, sucking pigs are seldom offered to the Ministry because it is more profitable to producers to feed them on and I do not think it desirable to sacrifice future meat supplies by encouraging sales of sucking pigs for slaughter.
