HC Deb 21 May 1953 vol 515 cc168-9W
83. Sir H. Williams

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that the police advice to seatholders on the route of the Coronation procession that they should arrive from four to eight hours before Her Majesty passes is likely not only to exhaust them but to diminish the number of people who, in the light of this advice, line the route; and whether he will reduce the period of waiting advised.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which I gave to a Question which he asked on 19th March. The very large crowds which assembled to view the Coronation rehearsal on Sunday, 17th May, may give some indication of the numbers which may be expected to line the route on the day of the Coronation.
