§ 19. Mr. Willeyasked the Minister of Labour what steps he is taking to reduce the redundancy among blind workers in Sunderland.
§ Mr. WatkinsonI understand that owing to lack of orders continuous employment cannot be provided for the blind in the Sunderland workshop. The main responsibility for providing such employment for the blind rests on the local authority but my Department has convened meetings of those interested who have suggested the formation of a joint marketing scheme to improve the position in this and other workshops. Discussions have proceeded since December, 1951, without bringing about the desired result.
