HC Deb 16 March 1953 vol 512 cc169-70W
Mr. R. Allan

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many applications for increased pensions have been received under the Pensions (Increase) Act, 1952; and how many of these applications had been granted by 28th February, 1953.

Mr. R. A. Butler

The figures for pensions payable from the Exchequer, are:

  • Applications received, about 185,600.
  • Increases granted, about 159,400.

Some of the cases in which increases have not been granted are still under investigation. The remainder have been found to be ineligible for increase.

I have no information about pensions payable by other authorities.

The figures do not include pensions of retired members of the Armed Forces, which are not covered by the Pensions (Increase) Acts but may be similarly in-creased under appropriate Prerogative Instruments.
