asked the Minister of Education the estimated effects of local authority rate increases in the education services of the country.

On the basis of the expenditure of local education authorities assumed for the purposes of my Estimates for 1953–54. I estimate that the total rate-borne charge for education within the purview of my Department will show an increase of about £7.6 million as compared with the current financial year.
