Johnsonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many tons of peanuts, lying at Kano, have been damaged by insect pests and are unfit for export; what would have been the prices per ton of these nuts; who will pay the native growers in Nigeria for these; and how far in the final event this loss will devolve upon the United Kingdom taxpayer.
§ Mr. LytteltonThe answers to these four questions are:(a) About 570 tons; (b) This would have depended on the contract price at the time of shipment; (c) The growers have already been paid by the Nigeria Groundnut Marketing Board; (d) The whole loss is borne by the Board.
